Project Outline
When Shuffle reached out initially, their platform was well underway but unfortunately the platform aesthetic wasn’t quite landing how they intended. When they got their logo developed it was presented with a traditional green and gold casino look that didn’t achieve the modern wow factor they set out to capture. As a result, the branding deck was then handed over to the UI team and it was clear they were stuck within the confines of the previous look and needed feedback on where to pivot.

The problem child in question causing strong visual misdirection.
Establishing the Strategy
As the UI team attempted to re-strategise, a large collection of various different looks were provided. Woven between an extensive list were some great references that were then further narrowed down and added upon to land on a more curated style that fit the objectives.
"The current use of 100% opacity colours paired with the flat line illustration styles are currently steering towards a familiar vintage style where we want to land a lot more modern, sleek and exciting." - Excerpt from brief
Key Words
Primary - Smart, sexy, premium, Intuitive, clean, personable

Defining Brand Guidelines
Once a clearer visual path had been paved, I recruited the talented Jehan Fonseka to the Shuffle team as a permanent hire who then hit the ground running developing all required internal graphics. We spent a great deal of time curating visual language for the entire platform tweaking the recipe numerous times until it was perfect. A clear set of rules was then defined so that all collaborators working on the brand could ensure consistency across the board regardless of their role. Documenting correct colour usage, appropriate logo margins and typography may seem simple but ensuring these styles work across all use cases are paramount for a platform as extensive as a casino. Usage across modals, within games, marketing and endless more use cases mean even something as simple as a font needs to work across a variety of applications.
The below is a few sample pages from the extensive framework developed.

Motion Design
As the UI was being developed, I then reached out to my good friend Smitt who is THE wizard when it comes to motion design. We spent a great deal of time designing all the animations for the site with documented keyframes so that the developers can then implement them into the platform. We also exported certain elements such as the site loader as a Lottie file which is an animation library developed by Airbnb engineers for lightweight vector based animations. These are directly exported from After Effects to ensure the exact keyframe pacing is perfect saving developers time that can be better spent elsewhere.
We designed the motion for how elements reacted across a variety of layouts as well as individual elements. We drafted multiple style variations for each design before refining the final concepts for various viewports and usecase considerations.
Reflection
I’m quite proud of the results from all our labour and i’m confident in the ongoing development of Shuffle’s aesthetic due to the frameworks and key hires put in place. As much as I love feeling like my continual input is wanted, I know i’ve done my job well when a brand can continue to build upon the strategic direction laid out without the need for constant supervision.
Shuffle is a prime demonstration of a plan in action and a great example of the world class level polish I strive for when helping a platform realise their vision.
